The word “hamartia” comes from the Greek word “hamartanein,” meaning “to err.” Very often it refers to a tragic mistake that, across different cultures and throughout the centuries, brings us back to the deepest sin, but with a heroic aspect, because it derives from failing to achieve one’s purpose, from rebellion against duty or destiny, sometimes for a greater good or an uncontainable feeling.
